Rupert Giles, often simply referred to as Giles, is a prominent character in the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Born and raised in England, he is a Watcher, a member of an ancient organization dedicated to training and guiding Slayers, young women chosen to fight vampires and demons.

Giles is initially introduced as Buffy Summers' Watcher when she arrives in Sunnydale, California. He is a scholarly and knowledgeable figure, providing Buffy with essential research, training, and strategic advice in her battles against the forces of evil. He is portrayed as intelligent, resourceful, and deeply committed to his duty, often putting himself in harm's way to protect Buffy and the town.

Over the course of the series, Giles evolves from a somewhat stuffy mentor figure into a surrogate father to Buffy and her friends.
